I asked almost 400 teachers what their back that is favorite to activities and ice breakers were. The answers were amazing! Teachers gave returning to school book suggestions, ideas for building a classroom that is positive, ice breakers and much more for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students!
There were so many great ideas that i can not share all of them. So, I organized all the answers, hunting for widely known, the essential unique, and also the most back that is practical school activities. A few of the teachers were happy to share ideas but asked to keep anonymous, and so I respected that request. Probably the most popular activities and a number of my favorites are below!
Most Well Known Back To School Activities
Several returning to school activities kept coming up over and over. Those activities below were some of the most popular, utilized by many teachers all over the world.

STEAM Team Building Activities – back again to school is a great time for you to integrate STEAM into the classroom! The teachers surveyed had some great activities for STEAM team building at the beginning of the year, including: Saving Fred, Helping Harry, a Cup Stacking Challenge, and a Spaghetti and Marshmallow Challenge.
Back to School Read Alouds – The teachers I surveyed listed a giant number of returning to school books to see with their class, although the favorite that is overwhelming First Day Jitters. Other favorites included many thanks, Mr. Falker , School’s First Day of School, Wemberly Worried, Do Unto Otters: A Book About Manners, Spider School, The Dot, and Oh, the Places you will Go!
Back again to School Ice Breakers
The teachers I surveyed had so many great ice breaker ideas that I experienced to create a section dedicated to just ice breakers and team builders.
Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament – Amy, who teaches Grade 5, says that „when students lose they cheer for the person they lost to through the tournament.“ Learn more here.
Would You Rather Questions – An anonymous teacher explained, „. students choose a region of the room in accordance with their answer. Example: Would you rather are now living in town or perhaps in the national country?“
The Line Game – comparable to „can you Rather Questions,“ 5th grade teacher Amanda Gornitsky said she puts „a blue line on the floor if something relates to the student they step on the line. Ex. Step exactly in danger if your animal that is favorite is zebra.“
Wc paper Tell – another teacher that is anonymous this ice breaker. „Pass around a roll of rest room paper and instruct students to tear so long or as short a bit as they like. Next, have them count how many squares they pulled off. Explain that they will tell one thing about themselves for each of the squares. It is so much fun and totally hilarious because some kids always get overzealous and rip off a very long ribbon of wc paper and then they need to think about something to fairly share for those squares! I allow other students to encourage them or help them out by asking questions in the event that learning student is shy or uncomfortable.“
Small Groups or Partners Ask Each Other Ice Breaker Questions – For those who have pre-made questions for students to see and ask each other, this will make a ice breaker that is great. Plus, students arrive at practice their reading, listening, and speaking skills. „I . like utilising the iPad in my own classroom. We are fortunate enough to own one per student. Each goes to the app Pages and create a poster using shapes, stamps, photos which have taken etc., that represent themselves and their interests. Then through Apple TV, the young children have the ability to use their iPad to show their poster in the screen. They really love this, and have fun asking one another questions.“ -Anonymous
